Revisit Financial Planning and
Common Mistakes
It seems the new year always brings fresh activity in the number of seminars, workshops, phone solicitations and mass mailings from a variety of sources; stockbrokers, financial planners, insurance companies, and the newest of media's, the internet. I guess everyone is trying to jumpstart their new marketing plans for the coming year. Remember, seminars, workshops, advertising and direct mail are all designed to sell you something.
Because of this flurry of activity I thought it might be good to revisit two subjects this month.
The first, "Why a Financial Plan" is a review of our financial planning process. It's been said that people spend more time planning their vacation than they do planning their finances and retirement. This piece is also available on our web site.
All of our clients who have a comprehensive financial plan have received their initial updates for the coming year, and I thought it might be timely to revisit this particular piece.
The second is "Common Investment Mistakes", which has also been on our web site since its beginning.
I hope you appreciate the fact that you're not hearing from me every month or so touting some new stock or some new manager, encouraging you to make a change. I found that if we have good strategies that are working and have chosen good managers that are doing their job, not a lot changing needs to be done.
In fact, if you've had the experience of someone calling excessively you've probably wondered if they were just trying to generate a commission for themselves or justify the fees they were charging rather than having your best interests at heart.
However, in reviewing the 10 most common mistakes, if you feel there is something we need to discuss or you have some concerns or there are changes that you would like to consider please give me a call. As you know, I encourage all of my clients to give me a call and review their financial planning and investments at least once a year.
