June 2009
It’s hard to believe that half of the year is gone and we have already been through a significant continued market downturn from January to the first part of March, followed by a very strong rally over the last three months.
We thought that because of the
market’s performance over the last 18 months, the enclosed Bear Markets Have Historically Led to New
Opportunities piece from Franklin Templeton would be timely. If you look at the average market
decline (-26%), it’s interesting to note that to get back to even, the
market would have to go up 35%, but the average market increase has been 75%. The average decline has lasted 11 months
while the average increase has lasted 27 months.
Also enclosed is the Summer edition of our KMS Client Quarterly, hopefully
you’ll find it full of interesting and timely articles.
Estate planning is something we don’t talk about often in our newsletter, but it is important to remind our clients that we do offer advice on the use of wills and trusts, and quite often assist clients in dealing with their estate planning attorney and/or CPA.
Insurance planning is also an important part of the total financial planning process. It starts with determining what coverage you currently have, what risk exposures you have, what risks you want to self-insure and what risks you want to transfer. If an insurance need is determined we offer life insurance, annuities, medical (including group medical), disability and long term care insurance.
In addition to the minimum annual
review we always recommend, it is good practice to review your estate and
insurance planning at least every 5 years or every time a life event
occurs. If you are realizing that
it has been awhile since you’ve done a comprehensive review, now may be a
good time to give us a call and set up an appointment.
We hope you are having
a great summer and look forward to talking to you soon!
